Q: How hard is it to retrieve a letter (went thru hole at top)from behind the glove box of a mazda miata and how?
Is the letter still in the car, or fallen out the bottom of the space behind the glove box? Do I look for screws or does the glove box door come off another way.? Important! there is money in the envelope!
A: try autozone or an autoparts store. some employees are friendly and might help you out. btw, my cabin filter is located behind my glove box, which is easy to remove (just remove two pins at the bottom of the glove box.) your vehicle might be the same.good luck.

I believe it's a blown head gasket and a broken thermostat, just wanted to get a second opinion and to make sure these are the symptons of such malfunction, Thanks.
A: You've popped a head gasket, and possibly cracked or warped the head. You'll probably find oil in the radiator, and coolant in your oil. Good luck.

Q: Mazda Miata with poor gas mileage?
I have a 2003 Mazda Miata 5-speed and I seem to get pretty poor gas mileage. I drive about 50/50 highway and city and I average just over 20mpg, whereas most of my friends with miatas get well over 25. That's 25% more! I can only drive about 200 miles before I have to fill my tank up. The car only has about 51000 miles on it. Anything specific I should look at?
A: Ok, you need to one do the full tune up as suggested. I would suggest going with the Platinum Bosch Plugs when you do the tune up. Two you need to monitor your tire pressure on a regular basis and ensure your tires stay inflated to the optimal range. A drop in tire pressure affects the mileage more than you would believe. Three you need to have all the O2 and emissions sensors checked. A bad sensor will cost you on fuel economy. Lastly, you need to monitor your driving style. Find the optimal shifting and acceleration range for your Miata and then stick to it. Even acceleration and shifting will save you more money than you think.
Q: What can I do to fix an overheating 91 mazda miata mx5 just did an oil & coolant change and it still heats up.?
the thing I have noticed is that there is steam coming from the radiator cap when closed and the dual fans won't turn on, any suggestions?
A: could be the thermostat is stuck closed, and the water is boiling and causing steam.
the fan aren't turning on because of a fuse, relay or switch/sensor.
you could also have a huge air pocket in the system, which could explain why the fans aren't activating.

A: They don't come with hardtops. But all models have always had a removeable hardtop as an option. You can get a hardtop for any year back to the first year 1990. The current generation has a retractable hardtop as an option.
Q: attention mazda miata owners, a question for you. At what mileage does the timing belt have to be changed?
I am thinking of purchasing a miata mx5 but want to avoid getting stuck with replacing a timimg belt as well with the purchase, If you know the price to do this, that would be appreciated too, maybe it is not all that much to worry about?
A: I would not let that scare me away from a Miata that had the right price on it. I would just go ahead and buy it planning on replacing the timing belt anyway. Mileage is not the only factor in failure of a timing belt. Age and exposure to oil and antifreeze can also cause a failure.
While you can get a "Life Time Warranty" on a timing belt. IMHO never go more then 60 K.
Also when going the timing belt check out the water pump, and front seal.
If you do it your self, beware that some Miata's have had crankshaft failures directly related to inattention on the part of the mechanic. The key on early miata's can be put in 8 different ways, however only one is correct.
This can cause some confusion of what size front seal (and oil pump) to use as the repairs on 90 and 91 miatia's may have involved using a later model crank.
I say this because I bought an abandoned Miata that the mechanic had caused crankshaft failure bu inattention to details and I replaced it with a lager "snouted" crankshaft.

A: I don't like the close ratio gear boxes. They are good when you don't want top end speed and plan on doing a lot of shifting. I stick with the older ones, because I like longer legs.

A: I doubt it. The Mazda is RWD and the Toyota is FWD. Its also 2 different manufacturers.
