Q: When will we have hybrid cars which can be plugged in?
I have a Lexus hybrid car. The salesmen tell me I don't have to plug it in. But I want to plug it in so that I can use electricity rather than gasoline when possible. When will some car company market a Plug-in Hybrid Electronic Vehicle (PHEV)?

A: Right now, a few users have figured out how to mod Priuses to make them plug-in capable. I don't think it is possible to convert the Lexus, though. However, GM just announced a true plug-in hybrid that they are planning to build, the Chevy Volt: http://www.autobloggreen.com/2007/01/07/detroit-auto-show-its-here-gms-plug-in-hybrid-is-the-chevy-v/ It's built on very different technology from the Toyota hybrids or GM's previous stabs at hybrid cars. Looks like they plan to start selling these sometime around 2012, as they're having trouble making sure the batteries won't wear out.

Q: i have got a Lexus Rx400h Hybrid is this better than having a regular car ?

A: What do you mean by better? Cheaper? Probably, depending on your pattern of usage. The hybrid should be much cheaper on fuel day to day, but you have a heavy hit every three to four years to replace the batteries. For the Environment? Well less burning of fossil fuel means less CO2 and that is good news. Old batteries need to be handled carefully, but I think that lead acid accumulators can be recycled so aren't so bad.

Q: have a Lexus Hybrid? any problems ?

A: So far hybrids of all kinds, Lexus or not, have been proven themselves to be highly reliable.

Q: Im starting a Transportation Company using Hybrid Vehicles. Do you think it will do well?
We are gonna use the Prius, Lexus hybrid etc, and hopefully make the Lincoln sedan a dinosaur...

A: All around the country, taxi companies have been doing well with their hybrids: http://www.greentaxi.org/testimonials.php http://www.autospies.com/news/Prius-taxi-paid-for-itself-in-no-time-17638/ http://www.1000www.autoblog.com/2007/05/22/bloomberg-all-nyc-taxis-to-be-hybrid-by-2012/ With fuel prices being what they are, hybrid taxis are sure to become more and more popular in the next few years.

Q: Why own a Mercedes when you can have a Toyota or Lexus?
Toyota and Lexus's are just as safe (sometimes even safer, according to NHTSA, than a Mercedes), more fuel efficient when compared to Mercedes engines with the same power, more new and improved technology, better value, and much more reliable. Take a look at these two amazing videos! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lrk6vsb77xk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfZDtC9kjVk Toyota Motor Corporation is becoming the biggest car company in the world and in the U.S. It is making billions while creating new jobs in America and elsewhere through its new plants while the Daimler Chrysler Group and Mercedes is losing billions and closing down its plants, cutting thousands of jobs. I think Mercedes used to make great cars, but now they are losing their game with twenty year old Lexus. How can Mercedes improve its products so that it is more reliable & competitive, especially when they are charging twice as much as Lexus. Do you think Mercedes diesels have a chance against Toyota/Lexus hybrids? EVERYONE LOOK AT THE YOU TUBE VIDEOS LINKED ABOVE, IT'S AMAZING!!! For MINH H's response, actually it is true that many foreign cars are built in the US. I've been to a Mercedes dealer and all the models I've seen(S,E, Cl, C, SL) says that the cars are only ~80% German with the other 20% made elsewhere. Toyota and Lexus has most of their cars from Japan, but the popular ones like Camry are built in the US. Many US cars are built in foreign land with foreign parts, like Escalade and Ford Fusion in Mexico and Chevy Aveo in South Korea. For those who think strongly about Mercedes being better than Lexus, go here (or those who just want to learn more about recent facts, go here): http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AkASqbUwSRhGOVgXwuSx3qPsy6IX?qid=20070621153325AAWulY4 All my links work. Try and click on them to learn more! You have nothing to lose, you'll find it all interesting. Please click on my name and go see my questions and click on one that interests you. You don't have to answer, just read... For New Day... The J.D. Power ratinga are the only thing that I have heard about Mercedes being good, other than the new GL winning one Motor trend award. Lexus, not even mentioning Toyota, has won best engine awards, world car of the year award, Always rated as reliable in Consumer Reports and Consumer Guide, and many other sources have given praises to Lexus and other Japanese makes, and not Mercedes (Car and Driver, Motor Trend...) Anyways, the J.D. Power Ratings only go by the car's first 90 days. Of course a car that cost twice as mush as it is worth is going to have good customer service and "satisfaction" on the first 90 days. If you want to see how reliable they rewally are, go look at a Consumer Reports car magazine. They actually test cars and reliability over years instead of J.D.'s 90 days! Just go look at my previous questions & you'll see. I think Reeny120 not pretend to know something. First of all, the Lexus ES350 is not a Toyota Camry, it just shares the chasis. The ES has way better materials and lots more tecnology and is a little more quieter. Do you know that the Chrysler 300 and the Mercedes E Class shares the same chasis and parts too. And the Mercedes R Class uses the same frame as the Chrysler Pacifica. Maybe I should just start calling Mercedes cars Chryslers. Even I thnik that would be insulting! Also, Lexus only exists in America. For example, in Japan, they only have Toyotas. So, in order for the car that we call the Lexus IS 350 in America to be sold in Japan, it is called the Toyota Altezza because Lexus doesn't exist in Japan. You should also know that the Toyotas in Japan are just as good, if not better than the Lexus's we have in America. People should know there stuff before answering! Why does everyone think the Lexus ES350 is a Toyota? Have you even been in one and compared it to a Camry. Even I it was a Camry, I'd rather have a Camry because it is safer than the C and E Class (according to the NHTSA, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and costs less than half as much as the E Class. Oh and it's also cleaner than the E Class. You can say that of course the 4 cylinder and hybrid models are cleaner, but even the V6 model with ~270 hp is a Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle! This V6 engine has won best engine awards and the Lexus ES's engine is simular but actually is tuned to have more horspower. For those who think that the ES and Camry are the same, just look at the engine bay and you decide if they look the same! For gailforce_wind, you have really biased observations. I only see twenty year old Toyotas and old Lexus that still run. I have a friend that recently bought a 1990 Lexus ES250 with 200,000+ miles on it and it still uns perfect! I have heard of 300,000 mile Mercedes, and the key word is "heard." I have actually seen many more twenty year old Toyotas an Lexus than any old Mercedes. I know that Mercedes USED to make old cars, but since the 90's, their reliability ratings sucked. I know many people with S Classes and M Classes that swear to never buy Mercedes again! Consmer Reports rates a brand new 2006 mercedes to hae more problems than a 1998 Lexus LS400, and that's a fact! I hope Mercedes could lean a few things from Lexus. Many people say that Mercedes invented airbags or some other 'innovations," but Lexus and toyota has made far better progress with car tech, yet still retaining their excellent reliability(Consumer Reports). Did you guys even watch the you tube videos? Top Gear (BBC) bought a 13 year old Toyota diesel truck with 190,000 miles on it and tried to desroy it, but the engine just keeps on running. They drove it over stairs, crashed it, threw it in the English channel and left it under salt water for five hours, dropped it, dropped a trailer on it, drove it through an "office," used a wrecking ball on it, burned it with fire, and finally demolished a 20 story building with the toyota truck on it. The Toyota not only started afterwards, it's still drivable! http://reviews.cnet.com/4323-10863_7-6509076.html?tag=txt http://www.barringer1.com/jul04prb.htm http://www.barringer1.com/jul04prb.htm "...Research by Peterson's own firm, AutoPacific, substantiates CR's [Consumer Reports'] findings. Its 2006 Ideal Vehicle Awards show Mercedes not only ranking ninth out of ten among luxury brands but also lower than the top ten mainstream brands like Hyundai and Subaru. The JD Power Initial quality study for 2006 models, which measures defects identified by customers during the first 90 days of ownership, put Mercedes at 25th out of a field of 37 brands. That was well behind leaders like Porsche, Toyota's Lexus, Jaguar, GM's Cadillac and Infiniti, though still two notches ahead of BMW. " http://money.cnn.com/2006/11/17/autos/pluggedin_Taylor_Mercedes.fortune/index.htm?cnn=yes http://www.usatoday.com/money/autos/2007-03-01-consumer-report-list_x.htm To car_guy and sammymirza, this is what I was thinking. If you want a car to show off and let people know you have enough money to buy a car and also having enough time and money to deal with all the problems the car is going to give you, yeah, the Mercedes is going to do a better job than Lexus. But if you want a good physical car itself, Lexus is the way to go. What I am saying is... (Don't take me seriously on this...) but lets say something like "The Day After Tomorrow" sort of senerio happenned. I am saying I would rather be in a Lexus because the physical car itself is more reliable and can get me further and more miles than the Mercedes. (Remember I am just using this scenario to illusrtate my point, I am not saying this scenario would ever happen) But if you think about it, in that scenario, I would probably go for the Lexus instead of showing off my benz. This shows that even if you are not in the worst case scenario, a Lexus is the better car in its physical aspects. To: mello I don't recieve endorsements from Lexus or Toyota. I am just a car enthusiast and when I come upon good cars, I notice them, instead of thinking about which cars would make me look wealthier. If you really had to ask me, I would hope American car makes would build better cars because (don't bring politics or political correctness into this, but) as an American, I am hoping we all do well. Even though many Americans today are losing their patriotic fervor because of difficult times, I hope Americans, no matter how stubborn we can be, that we can learn from mistakes and start building better cars, even if it means emulating the Japanese in their success in the automotive industry. It is great that Mercedes is getting better in quality ratings because they are a brand that has the image, but have slacked off & cheaped out on quality for too long(since the 90's). Lexus on the other hand is just twenty years old & has the right stuff & makes extremely well business...(next) cont... decisions, but lack the brand name. However, they are becoming the biggest automaker in the world and the United States. Profit-wise though, Porsche earns the most (eh-ehm...because of their extremely overpriced cars). I think almost all brands have their pros and cons (well, I can only think of cons when it comes to recent American cars, especially from GM), but Lexus has far more pros than cons. The only cons for Lexus and Toyota are their performance and, yeah they could be light on their feet and too quiet, but those are things that we can live with. Mercedes on the other hand, you get good performance, but have quality and reliability problems, the things that are going to drive you crazy and I certainely can't live with that. Mercedes' materials are getting really cheap too. Other than the more expensive S, SL, & CL class, other cars have fake leather & plastic panels & materials. Have you been in a $60,000 SLK, it's all plastic! You certainely get more in a Lexus.

A: This is all you need J.D. Power 2006 Vehicle Dependability Study Top ranking brands: 1. Lexus (Toyota), Score: 136 2. Mercury (Ford), Score: 151 3. Buick (GM), Score: 153 4. Cadillac (GM), Score: 163 5. Toyota, Score: 179 6. Acura (Honda), Score: 184 7. Honda, Score: 194 8. Jaguar (Ford), Score: 210 9. BMW, Score: 212 10. Infiniti (Nissan), Score: 215 11. Lincoln (Ford), Score: 220 12. Ford, Score: 224 13. Oldsmobile (GM), Score: 224 I have to admit, before DaimlerChrysler took over MB, it was a good company, now their quality has sunk so low. Lexus is the only company to receive a 5 rating from J.D. Power and Associates. It's what the people have to say, not the company.

Q: Lexus RX400 Hybrid: What do you think? ?
How do you like it? How about in comparison to the 350, which is not a hybrid? Any reason why you prefer the 350? Are there major maintenance issues with a hybrid model that aren't there with the gas only powered model? Thanks for any replies.

A: DONT BUY IT -- yet. They just redesigned it and it will be out soon. It is a great car and drives very smoothly and quiet. It is stylish, and has way better gas mileage. It is also shinyer and has nicer hubcaps. I would go for the RXh. GO GREEN! Go to lexus.com and click future vehicles than click new RX.

Q: Can I convert my existing car engine to hybrid electric engine?it is GS 400 sport,lexus,1998(8cylender)Thanks?
Or give me advise how to get good gas milage. on the car manual/book it says 8/4 cylender, does it mean that it work on 4 cylender normally ? Thanks

A: For enough money you could but basically you would be putting the GS body on a hybrid car. It would cost many times what the GS and hybrid cost combined due to the labor, cutting, welding, and design work. Your car only runs on 8 cylinders. The 4 is probably valves per cylinder or 4 cams (DOHC).

Q: how is the 2007 lexus gs450 hybrid?
i want to buy

A: I really like it. Normally, I'm not a fan of hybrids, but Lexus has my type of hybrids: they're not ugly and they're fast. Most hybrids, like the Toyota Prius or the Honda Insight, look bad. The GSh looks like GS with more power! What's bad about that? I've never driven one, but I have driven a GS 430. The GS 430 had an incredible amount of luxury and power and the GSh has the same interior plus more power. It's an excellent car. And personally, I think it's worth the money.

Q: Which is a better car to buy, a Lexus or a Hybrid?

A: A chevrolet.

Q: Which would you rather have, a 2007 Toyota Camry or a 2007 Lexus ES350? Hybrid Camry?
I think ES350 and Camry are simular vehicles. The Camry is cheaper (starts at $18,000, about $25,000 for a nice one). The ES350 is more expensive (starts at $33,000, at least $36,000+ for a nice one). In my opinion, they are both a pretty good value.

A: The Toyota Camry Hybrid. With almost 200hp it's a great preforming vehicle (0-60 in about 7.3 seconds) yet it gets great fuel economy (43mpg in the city). The ES350 is nice BUT it offers very little in terms of driving dynamics. For the same money you could get a BMW, Audi or Infiniti with RWD (AWD in the case of AUDI), a sport oriented suspension and great handling. The Lexus ES350 is going to out-Buick, Buick.

Q: Why is the hybrid tax rebate phased out?
Apparently the tax rebate on hybrids in the US is eventually phased out: "To get the tax credit you'll have to wait to buy the vehicle until after Jan. 1. If you buy one of the first 60,000 qualifying vehicles that your automaker sells or buy one in the first three months after the quarter in which that sales total is reached, you'll get the maximum rebate allowed for that vehicle. After that, the tax credit starts to phase out." http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002447385_hybridbreak21.html This is causing the rebate on Toyota and Lexus hybrids to be completely phased out by October 1st: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/tax_hybrid.shtml http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=169884,00.html Anybody know the reasoning behind this phase-out? It doesn't make any sense to me. It seems like we should continue to encourage the purchase of hybrids regardless of how many have been sold.

A: Probably because idiotic politicians feel that once a certain number of hybrids are sold, they no longer need tax rebates to continue sales success.

Q: Is Lexus going to make a hybrid version of the IS?

A: nahh..
