Q: Is there a less expensive way to have a 2002 Volvo key copied?
I just bought a 2002 Volvo S60 and it only came with one key. I would like to get another one made as soon as possible, but I am being quoted $140-$200 by the dealerships, who apparently are the only ones that can copy newer keys. Does anyone know of a better way to go about doing this?
A: As the first guy said, only the dealer, sad but true!
No locksmith will be able to do a darn thing about it, these keys are coded to emit a certain signal. The computer in the car then compares the code in the key to the code stored in the memory bank and then decides whether or not to let the car operate. I know because I had to have my antenna ring, the thing that receives the code in-car replaced at the dealer because I was getting an immobilizer signal!
Good Luck!
Q: How can I stealthily kill my old Volvo so my parents will buy my a new car?
This might sound really horrible, I know, but there's a reason for it. I'm 16 and I'll be getting my license in October, and my family has three cars, a volkswagen, a saab, and a smelly, old, 1995 Volvo 850 GLT. My sister has been driving the heck out of it (she's 18 and in college now, so she doesn't need it anymore) So, the volvo is my car when I get my license. My dad is looking into getting a new car around March of 2008. My plan, however, is to accelerate that process by KILLING MY VOLVO. You see, if I can kill my volvo, then my dad will buy a new car quicker and in time for my license test. Any help will be greatly appreciated. And the solution can't be to drastic. Something like ruining the transmission, or screwing up the ECU. Thanks in advance.
I do have a job and I have $3,500 dollars saved for my new one. Me and my family can afford it no problem, but my dad just wants to wait until it dies on its own. Jeez, don't be all mad at me..
I don't get why everyone is attacking me, lol! My dad WANTS to buy a new one.
Yeah, we got the volvo for free so it really has no financial tie to me or my family. So by me breaking it has nothing to do with wasting money or anything like that. The volvo itself is just a burden. And by removing the burden everyone is relieved. There are so many problems with it already, like the brakes, abs, catalytic converter, etc. All that money that would be used to replace those parts would just be wasted if we need to wait until March. So, in that respect, I'm not a "spoiled brat" or a "stupid kid". I am being a responsible person by realizing the opportunities presented to me and trying to make the best of the situation.
Really? Vandalism to my own property?...That sounds interesting. BTW, I reported you for threatening me. (directed at "owner of a lonely car"
A: put some diesel fuel, pour sugar into the fuel tank, drain the coolant, and drive it hard! this will cause the engine to overheat.
AND THE MOST GREATEST OF ALL.
POUR WATER INTO THE OIL.
kills em every time.
Q: What would be a better first car: a 1993 Volvo 240 or a 1980 Mercedes 300 TD station wagon?
I am 18 and just about to get my first car. I narrowed it down to two cars: a 1993 Volvo 240 and a 1980 Mercedes 300 TD. Both cars are in pretty much mint condition. The Volvo has 97,592 miles on it and the Merc only has 29,145 miles, which is pretty unusual because these car usually go up to 200k miles or more. Anyway, I want to know which car would be a better choice to get.
A: Mercedes will be easier to get parts for and more shops know how to work on a Mercedes than a Volvo.
However the Mercedes being a station wagon is going to be tail heavy for an inexperienced driver to handle on wet roads, icy roads and snowy roads:
What kind of miles? Where how.! City or open road:
29,145 might seem low milage, However here is the problem. It hurts and wears an engine a lot worse poking around town stopping and starting, than being driven on an open road for long distances at a time:
You need to consider that as well:
What you really need to do is take both cars to a mechanic you can really, and I mean really trust. Have him check them both out for you. he'll have the tools and test equipment to thoroughly check both cars for hidden problems:
Q: What does it mean when my Volvo s40 brake warning light comes on my dash?
I have a 2004 volvo s40 and my brake warning light started flashing when i turn the steering wheel to the rightside while driving. it does not come on if i'm driving straight or turning left. What does that mean?
thanks everyone!!
A:
The warning lamp for the brake fluid lights up if the brake fluid level drops to a level where the brake function is
affected. The float which indicates the low fluid level is suspended in the brake fluid reservoir. With that being said, your vehicle is low on brake fluid. When you turn a corner the the float shifts to the side and the light starts to flash. Check your brake fluid.
Q: How to remove rams from a volvo sterndrive?
Cannot figure how to remove the pins that hold the hydraulic rams from a volvo 290 stern drive. Someone told me that i have to remove a bolt located inside and then apply grease from the outside. Anyone with better directions out there?
A: These are a bitch. Yet another brilliant design from Volvo.
There is a small screw that holds each pin in way up inside the transom plate(which will of coarse probably snap off once you finally get a socket on them, so be careful).

Q: 95 Volvo 850 GLT How do you activate the little windshield wiper blades on the headlights?
Just got the Volvo 850 GLT...I wanted to know how to activate the headlight wipers?
A: All you have to do is pull back the lever that activates the windshield wiper fluid motion.
This will activate all wipers including the ones in the headlights.
Q: Any tips for cleaning upholstry in a 1987 Volvo 740?
I bought my car from the original owner, and she was a single woman who never really used the back seat. Well, it stayed nice until my stepdaughter snuck some food with her into the car and fell asleep. Now I have these ugly stains on my backseat on the passenger side. Any tips as to cleaning a tan cloth upholstery in a Volvo 740? I'm not against any harsh chemicals, or anything like that, so please, all the help I can get would be wonderful!
A: tuff stuff spray foam carpet and upolstery cleaner from walmarts or autozone and a stiff bristled brush will clean it like new.
Q: What is the recommended service interval on a Volvo Penta 2002 diesel?
My boat has a Volvo Penta 2002 fitted. What is the recommended service interval between the oil and fuel filters being changed. I have heard different reports of 50 and 100 hours. Can you help?
A: 50 hours is not much for a volvo ?
100 seems better .... but still quite low
I would be surfing the net for more info ?
My penta 70 runs for 1000 hrs before I service it
Q: What year did Volvo start incorporating LATCH for child/infant seats in its wagons?
I'd like to find a used Volvo wagon but I want it to have LATCH for an infant seat. (LATCH stands for "Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren" and is a standard part of the child restraint system found in cars today.)
It would be helpful to know what model years have the LATCH system so I can eliminate the ones that don't. Thanks!
A: The first year that LATCH (Lower Anchors and Top Tethers for Children)was in a Volvo wagon was 2001 with the V70.
Q: 1988 740 Turbo Volvo Head lights and dash lights won't turn on togeather?
I own a 1988 740 turbo volvo that runs great, but the lights are a lil screwy. The head lights work but tue dash lihjts wont, when the dimmer switch is turned the dash lights turn on but the head lights turn off. I know it's the problem with the rheostat, but I don't know how to fix it. If I need to replace it or just rewire it, i checked all the fuses and they all work. Any info would be nice.
A: moral of the story.......dont buy an 88 with electrical problems
Q: How offen do I need to change my oil on a new Volvo?
I was recently was told by a Volvo mechanic that because of the way that Volvo build there engines. I didn't need to change my oil every 3000 miles but instead every 6000 miles. Is this correct?
A: Volvo recommends a 7,500 mile interval for new cars. I would stick with a 4,000 mile interval if you drive in an urban or suburban environment. The first oil change and inspection (at 7,500 miles) is free at the Volvo dealer. I haven't had the oil changed on my Volvo yet. It's approaching 7,500 miles. After the first oil change, I'm going to stick with 3,800 to 4,500 mile intervals. I also recommend using semi-synthetic (or synthetic) oil. Use of synthetic oil will extend the oil change interval to around 5,000 miles, in my opinion.
By the way, no matter what your interval, my understanding is that a maintenance reminder will light up in the message box every 7,500 miles. You need to get it reset by a mechanic, or you can reset it yourself - directions are posted on online forums.
Q: How do I pull the engine codes from my Volvo 850 R?
I have a 1997 Volvo 850 R sedan, and I am trying to figure out how to pull the engine codes for diagnostics of the vehicle. I know that it is OBDII compliant, so all I have to do is take it to a dealer or an autoparts store, but I would like to know myself where the plug is located for the OBDII reader. How do you pull the codes? Does all it take to pull the codes is a OBDII reader?
A: Lift up the arm rest on the center console. Then remove the plastic plug that sits in front of the gear shift knob. The connector is under that plug.
